She laughed. "Whatever you say, dear."

Jennings shoved a stool to the counter and climbed up. "What do I do?"

"Maybe," he started slowly, "if Alaric agrees to let my dad 'help' him, I could see you more often without hiding in the woods."

Alaric chuckled, kissing her on the cheek, "One day soon, we should go on vacation for a few days, just me and you. Israel can look after the kids."

"You can go get me some bread and eggs." Genevieve said, taking out sugar and cinnamon from the cabinet.

Claudia was silent, moving back and looked away, "I can't motivate Alaric to agree just for my own selfish needs." she muttered.

"He loves taking care of them. We should do that. We deserve it."

Jennings ran along the counter and pulled the bread from the cabinet and the eggs from the fridge.

"And I wouldn't ask you to," he said gently. "I don't want my father there anymore than you do. I'm merely stating the fact."

"Definitely." Alaric smiled, "Maybe after I make my decision we can."

"Thanks, honey." Gen said when he came back and kissed him on the forehead as she took the eggs and bread and put them on the counter, "Do you want to crack the eggs into the bowl?" she asked, reaching up in the cabinet to get a bowl.
Ash watched them as he sat on the counter, sniffling once and a while because of his runny nose.

Claudia nodded, quiet for a moment before wondering allowed, "I'm curious with what choice he will make."

"Have you thought anymore about that, by the way?" she asked.

"Yes please!" He climbed back up onto his stool.

"I am, too. The next few years hang on this."

"A bit," Alaric nodded, "It's just . . difficult." he sighed, "If I decline his offer, I will seem selfish, like I want the throne to be just mine and people will think of me like my father. But if I accept, I'm allowing the fate of the city to be in this unknown man's hands."

"Alright," she smiled, taking the eggs and bowl over to him, "Just tap an egg on the side and let it fall into the bowl, just don't let the shell fall inside."

"Your father did seem pretty reasonable and innocent with his offer."

"I know." She kissed his shoulder and rubbed his arm. "It's not easy. But, if he's nearby, we can keep a better eye on him."

Jennings nodded, determined to get this right. He tapped the egg against the bowl, too gently at first. When it didn't break, he frowned and tried again. It cracked against the edge and he dumped the insides into the bowl. "I did it! Ash, come try!" he insisted, looking back at his brother.

Colton nodded knowingly. "He's good at being charming and kind. I wouldn't say he's evil. He's manipulative and ambitious. Any attack against Avon won't be violent. It'll be slow, peaceful maybe with a couple outbursts. One day, Alaric will wake up and realize that his people don't want him ruling anymore."

"I suppose that's another factor." Alaric nodded, "So far, I'm leaning towards accepting."

Gen ruffled his hair, "Good job."
Ash looked up and nodded, wiping his nose, "Okay!"
"Wash your hands first, dear." Gen called.
"Okay, Mom." he sighed, washing his hands before jumping back on his stool and took an egg, hitting it on the side and the egg fell in . . along with a few shell fragments, "Sorry." he said quietly.
"It's fine." Gen assured, "It's tricky." she washed her hands before sticking her finger tip in and grabbed the few fragments before throwing it out and washing her hands.

Claudia sighed, "So either way, Alaric is going to lose."

Isabella nodded slowly. "I think that's the better decision," she agreed with a sigh.

Jennings beamed at Ash. "Good job!"

"Unless Alaric or the others see through him soon enough, yes, I'm afraid so."

"Besides, if we decline we're practically killing hundreds of people, through the plague and the war that will start." Alaric muttered.

Ash grinned at him happily, "Thanks!"
Gen smiled at the two, as she added milk and cinnamon into the bowl and started to stir it all together.

"Great." Claudia said quietly. She couldn't tell them that this was what would happen, she could only sit and watch how things unfold.

"True. Maybe Adonis can help us with the plague if he's so invested in our people."

Jennings watched, bouncing excitedly.

"Yeah, it's not going to be easy."

"He mentioned if I accept him to help me rule, then he'd help find a cure for it." Alaric nodded then groaned, hitting his head on the pillow, "This sucks."

"It'll be done soon." she assured, smiling as she poured some of the mixture onto a few slices of bread before putting it on the stove.

"But no matter what, through this we're going to be together, right?" Claudia asked quietly.

"Then I think you should accept. We need to get rid of this plague, and we need all the help we can get. And yes, it does suck. Sucks hard."

"I might starve before it's done," he whined.

"Of course. I'd have it no other way," he assured, kissing her forehead.

"But it's the best thing to do." Alaric said, kissing her on the cheek, "So I guess we're allying ourselves with him."

"Don't be dramatic." Gen said, ruffling his hair playfully as she put the pieces of bread onto the pan.
"So hungry!" Ash whined.
"Not you too."

"Good." Claudia said, caressing his cheek.

She sighed. "Looks like."

Jennings giggled. "We're VERY hungry."

He smiled and settled back into the grass, staring at the sky.

"Should I wait until he returns tomorrow or send a messenger to him?" Alaric wondered, racking his hand through his hair.

"You two act like I don't feed you." Gen rolled her eyes, taking the french toast off the pan and put the stack of it onto a plate.
"Yum!" Ash grinned as Gen gave them both plates and put the syrup and sugar onto the counter.

Claudia laid back next to him, resting her head on his chest as her hands explored his chest.

"At least tell everyone else close to you of your decision. If there's an objection, discuss it. Once everyone agrees, tell him."

Jennings giggled and bounced. "Thanks, Mom!"

Colton kissed the top of her head and smiled, satisfied with the morning so far.

"Alright," Alaric nodded, "I'll have to talk to Israel, Claudia, Ben and Gen then." He said and kissed her on the forehead.

"Anytime." she smiled, grabbing a piece for herself. She looked over as Finn ran in, grinning, "Food!"

"Do you have to leave soon?" she asked looking up at him.

"Time to get up then?" she asked with a heavy, dramatic sigh.

"Hey, Finn!" Jennings greeted through a mouthful of food.

"Not for a little while. You?"

"I'm afraid so, sorry dear." he chuckled, kissing her on the cheek as he got up.

"Hello." he smiled brightly, "Can I have some, Genevieve?"
"Of course, help yourself, Finnian."
"Yay." he grinned, sitting next to Jennings and grabbed a plate of french toast.

"I've got a while before anyone will miss me." she smiled.

She groaned loudly and dragged herself to her feet. "I don't like this!"

Jennings swung his legs and chewed happily. "What do you want to do today?"

"Alright," he sighed and leaned over to kiss her forehead.

"I'm sorry, darling." Alaric said, kissing her at the tip of the nose, "But I promise, tonight we'll have some fun." he vowed with a flirtatious smile.

"Play, obviously." Finn grinned, taking a bite of his breakfast.

"Hey, at least it's some time." Claudia smiled.

"Oooh-la-la. You better deliver, mister," she teased, poking his chest and grabbing some clothes to change into.

"Plaaaaay what though?"

"Very true. It's never long enough though."

"When have I ever failed." Alaric winked, changing into some black pants and a white shirt.

"I dunno. . . something fun though. Why not soccer?" Finn suggested.

"Well sorry that I have a life outside of you." she teased lightly, poking the tip of his nose playfully.

Isabella laughed and changed into a mint green, flowy shirt and tan pants. "This is true. I have no reason to question your skills then, do I?"

"I love soccer!" Jennings gushed excitedly.

"Lies," he teased and got to his feet.
