"It's only Stephanie really. The others are alright. They're all stupid except for Hakkam, but they have some use."

"What's wrong with the girl?" Alice asked curiously, "She seemed to like you, with the pet name and all."

He waited a long moment. "She liked me. I didn't like her. At all. For some reason her poor feelings were hurt by that so she decided to hate me." He shrugged one shoulder. "Now she uses the pet name to mock me."

Alice looked at him, surprised, "Really? Huh, I never would've thought that."

"I thought the same."

"Well, I bet the twins'll be all over her." Alice assured, "They seem like the flirty type. Hey, maybe they'll do you a favor."

"Only thing they would prove to be good for so far."

"I thought people join groups to get along, not to hate each other." Alice sighed, shaking her head.

"I joined because it was strategic move. Loners around here don't last long."

"Well you and Sam seem to get along. I pictured you guys as friends."

He shrugged one shoulder. "He saved me and didn't regret it later on."

"Well, if that isn't friendship, what is?" Alice muttered, putting her hands in her sweatshirt pockets. She hesitated before asking, "Did you have any friends that you left behind when you passed?"

"No," he stated, again in a way that indicated that he didn't care one way or the other. It was a fact, not an emotional response.

"Oh," Alice said, not expecting that answer, "Sorry." she said, looking away, a bit flustered.

He looked at her and snorted. "Don't start pitying me. I can't stand pity."

"Sorry, I just can't imagine not having a friend to be there for you." Alice said quietly.

"I found out that alone protected me. Alone was what I had, so I learned to make due."

"But you don't have to be alone," Alice said, "You have Sam, and you have me too." she smiled.

He glanced at her, his expression unreadable. Honestly, he didn't know if he wanted friends or people worrying and caring about him. Seemed like a huge waste of time to him.

Alice looked at him for a moment before looking away, feeling a bit awkward by the silence. "Just letting you know." she mumbled.

"I know," he assured. He opened and closed his mouth a couple times, wanting to say something but having no idea what to say. He settled with silence.

Alice stayed silent as well until she glanced around, "Are we almost there?"

"Right around the corner." He jammed his thumbs into his pockets and tapped his hands against his thighs - a nervous twitch.

"Alright," Alice nodded and went back to silence. She was never sure of what to say around him.

Kit gestured at the movie theater. "Here you are."
