Levi followed a step behind, letting her lead the way.

Isabella sighed down at Alaric's messy desk. Thankfully, she knew his system. "Well, let's get started," she murmured to herself.

Gen stood outside the door and hesitated, looking at Levi, "I won't tell Jennings who you are if you don't want." she whispered before opening the door. Ash was in bed, shaking slightly, sweat dripping down his face. His skin was as pale as a ghost.

Claudia patrolled the city, glancing around idly at the citizens walking around the street. She was stuck on patrol due to the overflow of soldiers at the estate because of the outside help. She still didn't like having Colton's dad around, knowing his evil intentions.

"Thank you." He followed her in. "Let me see him," Levi said gently, kneeling down in front of Jennings.
He hesitated before giving his brother up. "Can you help him?"
"Maybe."

Colton threw down his pen and rubbed his eyes. "Can I go?" he asked his teacher. "Pleeeeaseee?"
"Yes, yes, your lessons are done," he sighed.
"Thank you!" he yelled over his shoulder as he raced out the door.

Ash shook in Levi's hands, whimpering quietly once away from Jennings.
Gen sat next to Jennings and hugged him, "Everything will be okay." she soothed.

Ashlee stood outside where Colton's lessons were. She beamed as she saw him exit, "Hey there brother." She grinned widely, "Guess who's back?" she said, her hands on her hips. Her long brown hair went down past her waist and her bangs fell in her blue eyes.

"It's OK," Levi assured. He pressed a hand to Ash's forehead. "I know of something that will reduce the fever and should help with the shaking. He'll eventually have trouble breathing, but there's something that'll help keep his airwaves open. I'll be right back." He set Ash in Jennings's waiting arms again and got to his feet before heading out the door.

"Ashlee!" He swept her up in a hug and spun her around. "I've missed your face."

"I'll be right back." Gen said gently to Jennings, kissing him on the forehead before doing the same to Ash. She followed Levi out, "Do you think he'll be able to get any better?" she asked quietly, afraid.

Ashlee laughed, "Who hasn't? It's good to be back though, little bro." she grinned, though it wavered a bit, "Our father wanted to see you, what did you do this time?"

"I hope so. He's not dying on my watch, I know that much." He jogged down the steps to the infirmary to find the supplies he needed. Most of them were herbs.

"Probably wants to talk to me about that water balloon I threw at some noble."

"Thank you so much, Levi." Gen breathed, following him, "When this is all over, I want you to stay." she said quietly, it has been going through her head for sometime now, but she finally built up the guts to say it out loud.

"You're such a dork." Ashlee snorted, "Especially if you got caught. Did I not teach you anything about being stealthy with it." She smirked, jogging towards their father's quarters, not wanting to keep him waiting.

He didn't reply for a long moment. "Maybe I can," he said thoughtfully. He shoved open the infirmary door and started going through glass bottles of dried herbs and flowers.

"But I didn't want to be stealthy. I wanted him to know exactly who did it. Because he pissed me off."

Gen's heart fluttered at that, her eyes wide with hope, "D-do you mean it." she asked quietly, putting a hand on his arm.

Ashlee rolled her eyes, "Annnnd that got you caught, good job." she said, slowing down a bit as they neared.

Again, Levi hesitated. He met her eyes for only a moment, still motivated by panic and fear for Ash. "I do." He set some glass bottles, a mortar, and a bowl into a stray box.

He smiled brightly. "Yeah, well." He knocked on the door. "Dad, can we come in?"
"Yes. Please."
Colton pushed open the door and raised an eyebrow before taking a seat. He crossed his legs and leaned back. "So, what'd you want to talk about?"
"You."
"OK. That stuck up noble had it coming."
"No. Not that. Something else."

Gen blinked, still surprised and nodded, "We'll talk more of this later." She said before going back to her boys.

Ashlee frowned, but stayed at her brother's side.

He nodded and raced back up the stairs to the boys' room.

"OK. So, what is it?"
Their father got to his feet and poured himself a drink. "Want one?"
"Uh. Sure. Why not?"

Ash coughed violently, his frail body shaking with each cough as his fever increased.

"Perhaps drinks aren't needed." Ashlee frowned as she narrowed her eyed. "

"It's going to be alright," Levi soothed, sitting down on the bed next to Ash. "Just breathe." He ground up some of the herbs, added water, and it made a watery, drinkable paste. "I need you to drink this. It's kinda like a really healthy smoothie. It'll help the fever."

"Come on, Ashlee, lighten up," Colton chided with a smile. "Just one." He watched his father pour a mouthful of Scotch.

Ash opened one eye and nodded, "O-okay." He whispered before taking a sip but started to cough.

Ashlee sighed, "Don't say I didn't warn you." She said before shooting her father a look.

Levi rubbed his back. "Take it slow. It's kinda bitter. I'm sorry."

Her father glanced in Ashlee's direction before handing Colton the drink. "I've heard a rumor about you, Colton."
"Which one? I've heard about five."
He smirked. "The one saying that I found you in a ditch and adopted you was pretty bizarre."
Colton chuckled. "Despite the fact we look very much the same."

"D-daddy?" Ash whimpered after finishing more off, "Is that you?"

Ashlee leaned against the wall watching the two carefully, growing curious herself about the rumour after being gone for months.

Levi hesitated and glanced at Jennings, whose eyes were wide and flickering between Ash and Levi. "It's me," he whispered. "I'm here to take care of you."

"It's about you and a certain soldier."
Colton raised an eyebrow, keeping his poker face on. "And what's this soldier's name?"
"Claudia."
"Claudia? Sounds familiar. That's all I can say about the matter though. Where'd you hear this?"
"The servants have very loose tongues around here."
Colton took another sip and shook his head. "Well, apparently those loose tongues are exaggerating or lying, because I'm not in a relationship with anyone."

"Don't leave, Daddy!" Ash cried quietly, grabbing onto the sleeve of his shirt.
Gen looked at Jennings and whispered, "I'm sorry. "

Ashlee raised an eyebrow at that, "Colton? With a girl? You're hilarious, father. "

"I'm not going to leave. I'll stay right here until you're better. I promise." He smiled and hugged Ash close. He kissed the top of his head. "But, right now, I need you to swallow the rest of that. It'll help you feel better and get some sleep."
Jennings didn't speak. He leaned back against his mother's shoulder and watched.

"I always thought so. Thing is, I've seen you around with this girl. And my men have seen you around with this girl, so I'm inclined to believe it."
"Then you're foolish as well as hilarious."

Ash nodded, "Okay." he whispered, taking a sip of the drink and grimacing at the taste. As he finished his eyes started to droop a bit.
Gen pulled Jennings closer and rubbed his arms, "He'll be okay." she whispered.

Ashlee looked at the glasses of alcohol before back at her father, "Are you sure you didn't drink too much, father? They're probably just training partners. Right, brother?"

Levi pulled Ash into his lap and smoothed the second mixture over Ash's neck and chest. It was almost like a gritty lotion. "This'll help your breathing," he murmured.
Jennings nodded and smiled up at her. "He's calmer now."

"Right," Colton agreed with a short nod.
"Except we brought his teacher and usual dueling partner here with us."
"Claudia is more of a challenge," he reasoned slowly and took another sip.

Ash nodded slightly before closing his eyes and fell back into a deep sleep.
Gen mirrored the smile and nodded, "He'll be back to normal in no time. "

"Isn't it better if he learns the fighting style in Avon? Besides father, what is the issue with this? "

Levi lied Ash down gently and pulled the blanket up to his chin. "He should sleep well for a few hours. He'll need it."
Jennings looked between Ash and Levi. "Thank you."
"Of course."

"Because, Colton is a prince from another country, and she is a commoner from Avon."
Colton groaned loudly. "REALLY? I thought we had evolved past this!"
"No. This is still an issue."
Colton glanced in Ashlee's direction. "Please talk some sense into him."
