Mercy tried to stay focused on what was going on around her, but eventually she zoned and was surprised and relieved to see the trees thinning and the tops of the barns of the hideout coming into view.

"Here we are," Alaric sighed, "I suppose it's time to face the music."

"I suppose." Mercy replied with a sigh.

Alaric released a heavy sigh and went through the woods that brought them back to the farmhouse, "Ready to go see her?" he asked, crossing his arms.

"As I'll ever be." Mercy said, following him.

Alaric started to lead the way to the door of the farmhouse. He glanced behind him and was surprised to see Gen following.
"You really don't need to come, either of you, it's my fault."
Gen shook her head, "We're a team, we're all going to go in to report together." she said, looking at him.
A weird feeling came upon Alaric, almost like admiration. He nodded, "Right" and opened the door into the house

Mercy went in after them, dreading the chewing out they were sure to get, but knowing she was just going to have to grin and bear it.

Gen walked in front of them to Lacie's office. She knocked on the white door, and almost immediatly it was opened by Stefan, Lacie's right hand man.
Lacie was sitting in a posh red velvet chair, her legs crossed over each other, "Since I haven't heard of anything, I'm assuming Sebastian is still breathing."
"Yes, we weren't able to kill him." Gen replied, crossing her arms.
"Why was that?" she asked, frowning.
Alaric opened his mouth to tell of his failure, but Gen started to talk.
"I made a foolish mistake, and we were captured. I am sorry." she said, hanging her head down, ashamed.
Alaric blinked, shocked that she was taking the fall for him.

Mercy kept her surprise to herself, though she did cast a neutral glance at Gen. She wondered why she'd done that.

"Really, Gen? I never would've though you'd make a mistake like that." Lacie said, although she did look please of Gen's failure.
Alaric couldn't let this go, "Gen, didn't mess up, I did."
"There is no need to cover for me, Alaric. I risked all of our lives." Gen said, glancing at him briefly before looking back at Lacie.
"I would like to talk to you, Gen. Mercy, Alaric, please leave us." she commanded.
Gen uncrossed her arms and looked over at Mercy and Alaric, "Do as she says."

Mercy raised an eyebrow at Gen, but shrugged and backed out the door. She'd get an explanation later, and it generally wasn't wise to argue with Lacie.

Alaric hesitated before following Mercy out. Right when they were both outside the doorway, it closed behind them.
"Why the hell would Gen do that?" Alaric said, slightly angered.

Mercy knitted her eyebrows together in thought "I don't really know" she replied "But she'd better have a good explanation."

Alaric was conflicted by his feelings, unsure whether to be grateful for her taking the fall, or to be insulted. He swerved the other way, storming off.

"Such a sloppy mistake, Gen." Lacie smirked, "And people were starting to think you were a big deal here."
"We all make mistakes, Lacie." Gen said evenly.
"You've made a lot though, especially in the Brotherhood."
Gen glared at her, "My past has nothing to do with you, stay out of it."
"Fine, fine." Lacie said, brushing it off, "You are suspended from missions for a while, until you get your act together."
"Got it." Gen said, crossing her arm.s

Mercy hesitated for a moment, then decided to wait for Gen instead of following Alaric. There was nothing she could do for that situation, but she could hear Gen's explanation.

Gen exited the office with a tired sigh. She glanced over at Mercy, "Still here?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Yeah, kind of wondering what that was all about?" Mercy said, curious.

"It was nothing," Gen said, brushing it off and started to walk towards her room.

Mercy wanted to know why Gen had told Lacie it was her fault, and she was just about to follow after her and ask her when she decided to just let it go for the moment. Gen obviously didn't really want to talk to her. Shaking her head, Mercy headed down toward her room, hoping to find Jack.

Gen shut the door behind her and released another tired sigh. She slipped out of her dress and put on a night gown before falling into bed. She wasn't sure herself what compelled her to take the blame for Alaric. She figured that it was because she knew what it was like to fail someone and cause trouble for a group, it only felt right to take the blame.

Alaric sat ontop of the barn's roof, looking up at the darkening sky. He felt embarrassed, like he was a new recruit again, having to be watched over. He titled his head back and started to cruse himself for his failure. It didn't feel right not getting punished.

Mercy was halfway to her room when she decided she really didn't want to be inside. Honestly she really didn't want to be anywhere, there wasn't a place that could make her happy. But outside was better than enclosed in her room. She walked out the door and glanced up at the sky. It was a little late to take a walk, but she decided it would be a quick one.

Gen tossed over to her side, tears starting to shed. She realized how much she missed her brother and Levi. She felt so empty, and she couldn't help but blame herself. She had been careless like Alaric was, but her mistake was more deadly.

Alaric closed his eyes, dozing off as his mind wandered. He was too tired to beat himself up any longer.

Mercy walked along the edge of the treeline, brushing her hand against the trunks as she went. Her mind wandered and she started thinking about how things were a year ago, and the always present dull ache of loss began to grow sharper.

Sebastian stood out at the balcony of the mansion in Avon City. They had left as soon as the rebels escaped in order to get to safety. He played around with his pocket watch idly. Something about those two girls made him feel uneasy, as if danger to them drove him insane. He tightened his grip on his pocket watch and threw it off the balcony in frustration.

Mercy sighed and looked around. The sun had almost completely gone down. She decided to go back inside and find Jack. He'd be wondering where she was.
