"I'm.trying." Jade forced out a reply, throwing a succession of fire balls at the boy.

"I know," Colin murmured, glancing back in the direction of the town.

Devon followed the fight with his ears. He knew by now who made which moves. He glided forward, never making a sound as he drew a knife from his belt. He jumped for the boy, knife aimed for his back just under the neck.

The boy narrowed his eyes and stumbled back as the fire hit the side of his skin. He then fell to his knees as the boys knife hit his back. He escaped a silent scream as blood dripped down the side of his mouth.

"Should we go back?" she asked quietly.

Jade emitted another column of fire, aimed directly at the boy's chest.

The boy fell over as the fire burnt through his stomach and laid on the ground, lifeless.
Fang morphed back into his human form, breathing heavily as he put his hand to his chest that was sticky with blood.

He hesitated. "Yeah. I have a bad feeling."

Devon could smell the blood. He headed over, gripping Fang's arm. "How bad?" he asked quietly.

Chloe hesitated as well, a bit scared to go but nodded, "Alright," she started to run back to the town.

"P-pretty bad," he muttered, drawing his red hands back, "He got me good, the bastard."

Colin sprinted back next to her, pumping his legs as fast as he could.

"Here, sit down. I might be able to help," he said, a trace of worry leaking into his voice.

Chloe walked to the gates of the town, shocked as she saw people getting up from the ground, "Looks like they did it," she grinned.

Fang fell down to the ground and grunted as he coughed up drops of blood.

Colin grinned. "I knew they could." He continued through the crowd of slowly waking people, searching for Fang and Jade. He spotted them not far away. Fang was on the ground with Devon. "Oh no," he murmured.

Devon knelt down next to him. "I'll try to be gentle," he shrugged out of his thin jacket and began tearing it into strips. He balled one up and pressed it against the wound. "Keep pressure on that. Are you coughing up blood?"

"Yeah," Fang coughed as he put his hand down on the strip. His vision started to blur.
Chloe looked over at where Colin was and her eyes widened, "Fang!" as she ran towards him.

"You punctured a lung," Devon murmured. He listened to his breathing. It was relatively stable. For now. "If you start having trouble breathing, things could get a little more painful for you." He pushed his fingers lightly against Fang's neck and down towards the injury, checking for bruising. "Let me know if it hurts."
Colin reached Fang before Chloe did. He dropped to his knees. He gripped Fang's wrist and pulled his hand gently away from the wound. He stiffened. "I thought we agreed that only I was allowed to get hurt."

"Fun," he hissed as his hand aggravated his chest, "Damn that hurts." he looked over at Colin with a bloody smile, "Sorry . . ."

Devon nodded. He rubbed his forehead. "There's a lot of internal damage that I can't treat out here. I need you to move your hand away from the wound for a second." He leaned in closer. "Breathe deep."
Colin watched nervously, his eyes going from Fang to Devon and back.

"Alright," Fang said, obeying as he moved his hand away and released a shaky breath.
Chloe stood a little bit back, giving them room. She bit on her lip as she watched, growing nervous.

Devon sighed in relief.
"What? What was that all about?" Colin asked.
"The wound injured his lung. If the blade had gone straight through and hit his lung, I'd be able to hear him breathing through the injury, but he's not, so the lung is only bruised by the impact. Very badly bruised, but it'll heal naturally without my intervention. We just need to stop this bleeding - a much easier task. But, breathing is going to hurt like hell for about five weeks." He pressed the cloth back against the wound and pushed hard. "It needs to be cleaned. There's a doctor's office down the street about three buildings. Grab everything needed," he ordered.
Colin jumped to his feet and sprinted away.

"I owe you," Fang smiled at the boy before his eyes fluttered close and head his turned to the side.

"No, no, no, no. Stay awake, Fang," Devon snarled, hearing his heart rate and breathing slow. "Don't make me do CPR."
Colin shoved open the door and started grabbing armfuls of stuff - anything that Devon could possibly need. He grabbed it all and sprinted back. He dropped it all down by Devon.
"He's out," Colin breathed.
"Yes, he is. This is not good. Try to wake him up while I get this stuff ready." Devon's hands glided over the objects, identifying each one immediately.
Colin slapped Fang's face. "Wake up, moron! The nightmare kid is dead! You're not supposed to be sleeping now."

Fang stayed held in sleep's hold, distantly hearing Colin's voice but couldn't find his way back to consciousness as darkness took hold.
Chloe's eyes started to water as she watched.

Colin kept himself from shaking Fang too bad, but he grabbed his shoulders and shook them a little. "Come on! Please, Fang!" He pressed his finger into the hollow of Fang's neck, feeling for a pulse. "It's getting slower."
"I know." Devon pressed his hand against Fang's chest and set a bolt of lightning through him. "Come on, man. Don't let go. Keep listening. Colin, keep talking. Give him something to concentrate on." He peeled the cloth aside and started tending to the wound, cleaning, stitching what he could, and wrapping as quickly as his fingers would go.
Colin kept one hand on Fang's shoulder. "If you die on me, I'll never forgive you. I'll resurrect you long enough to kill you myself for leaving me, and then I'll resurrect you again and apologize for killing you. But I still won't forgive you for dying in the first place."

Fang's chest moved forward as the lightening went through his body. He could distantly hear Colin's words and wanted to respond, but the darkness kept him trapped.

Devon finished dressing the wound and sent another jolt of electricity through him. "Come on. Open your eyes."
Colin bit his lip. "Just listen to us, Fang. Please. Come back."

Fang's eyes fluttered open and smiled brokenly, "S-sorry," he coughed and his eyes started to flutter close again.

"No, no, no, don't you dare," Colin said, holding his eyelids open. "You close them and I kill you, got it?"
Devon couldn't help but chuckle a little. "That'd be counterproductive." He sent a steady, slow, pulsating round of electricity through Fang, just to keep his heart rate up and away from the dangerous, slower pace it was heading towards.

Chloe put a hand on Colin's shoulder, "I think he's just tired, he'll be able to handle it." she said quietly. She looked over at Devon, "He's doing better, right?"
