"I do. You don't understand how useful this will be." She dropped into the vault and took the scythe off the wall.

[Mags]

"What does it do?" Alice asked, curious.

She grinned. "You'll find out soon."
Kit curled his fingers around it curiously. It felt colder than any metal he'd touched before.

[Mags]

Alice grabbed onto it as well, curiously drawn to it, "I don't--" a bright light flashed before the room was warped into something else, to another scenery.

Kit blinked and he was curled up on a cot, back against the wall. He frowned, at the stark white wall in front of him. He felt like he had just woken up from a bizarre dream.

The door creaked open and a man in a white doctor's coat came in. His blonde hair was sleeked back and wore black, thick framed glasses, "Kit, how are you feeling today?" he asked, stalking forward, looking at him with clinical interest.

"Weird. I didn't sleep all night but I feel like . . . what does it matter anyway?" he snarled, stretching out his legs.

"I see that attitude of yours is still flaring up. Being Bipolar is such a tragic thing." the man said, writing up on his notes, "Would you like Head Nun Blair to visit you or therapist Alice?" he asked before handing him his medication, "Since I don't think you're in any condition to be with the others in the mess hall today."

"Send Alice. Blair pisses me off," Kit replied, downing the medicine. He moved to the wall covered in algorithms, numbers, math equations, and scientific problems. He pried the marker lid off with his teeth and began working on a theorem that could theoretically allow someone to be transported between two prearranged locations on the earth. Another wall was covered in patterns, lists, and charts.

He looked at him for a few moments and shook his head with a small sigh. He headed down the hall to Alice's office and knocked. The girl opened the door, blinking at him, "Dr. Lucic, how can I help you?"
"You're with Kit for today." he informed before walking away.
Alice nodded, grabbing her clipboard and notes before walking into Kit's room, "Good morning, Kit." she greeted with a friendly smile before sitting by his cot, "How did you sleep?"

Ethan awoke, shivering and looked over at Aiden who was sleeping in the cot by his side, "Morning, Aiden." he smiled.
"Ethan, I don't like it here." Aiden said quietly, "We should leave."
"We've tried." Ethan whispered, hugging onto his brother, "We're stuck."
Lucic walked into the Ethan's room, seeing him hugging onto himself and talking to an unseen figure.

"Terribly. Now shut up. I'm trying to think," he grumbled, scribbling something else onto the wall.

Alice watched him for a few moments before speaking up once again, "Why did you sleep terribly, Kit?" she asked, continuing to write on her notes.

"Ethan." Lucic said, walking in, "I'm going to send in Nun Blair to speak with you, is that okay?"
"Can Aiden stay?" he asked quietly, facing away from him.
"If you want him to, sure." he nodded, going to find Blair.

"I had a weird dream," he said distantly, most of his disconnected mind focused on the problem in front of him.

Blair watched Hakkam from the one-way window. Right now, he seemed calm enough. He sat cross-legged on his bed, a book open in front of him.

"Can you please tell me about your dream?" Alice asked, standing up and walked forward, placing her hand on top of the hand that had the marker on it. Her blue eyes were full of care and concern.

"Blair," Dr. Lucic said, walking towards her, "I'd like you to deal with Ethan, try to help him pry away from his other half."

Kit froze and glanced at her. He capped the marker and folded his arms. He leaned back against the wall. "It was about you," he paused, "and the other people here. We were all part of some sort of . . . family or gang or something."

Blair turned away from the window. "Right away, sir." She headed for Ethan's room and slipped inside. "Good morning! How are you today?"

Alice raised an eyebrow, scribbling it down in her notes, "I suppose you could think of us here at the asylum as a family, we all care for one another."

Ethan glanced over at her, "I'm fine, how are you Aiden." looking back at the empty space in the cot
"Scared." he whimpered.
"Aiden's scared, he wants to leave."

"No, we don't. You may care, but Blair and Lucic? They don't care. Not really. Not like you do. That's how Blair was in my dream, too. She was putting on an act. You could tell in her eyes."

"Aiden wants to leave? Do you want to leave, too, Ethan?" Blair asked gently.

"They have different . . . ways of showing they care." Alice said carefully, sitting by his side, "We just all want you and the others to be well. You have all been struck with bad luck." she pushed Kit's hair back away from his eyes with motherly care.

"I want to go wherever Aiden wants to." he smiled at the empty spot, holding onto the imaginary boy.

Kit watched her curiously. "Bad luck? It's bad luck that I have this extraordinary brain that won't leave me alone? Sure, the temper tantrums I could do without, but I don't want to lose my intellect, and I don't consider it bad luck."

"Where is Aiden? Is he here?"

[Mags]

Alice nodded, understanding and drew her hand back, "I know, you're a smart boy, but you put too much strain on your mind. That's why you're here." She finished up a line of markings on her paper.

"He's right next to me. Why do you guys always ask that?" he asked quietly.
"This isn't it right, we don't belong here," Aiden whispered.
"I know, we don't belong here." he responded quietly.

"My brain can handle the strain just fine, thank you."

"Because we can't see Aiden, and I don't think you can either. Not really. You just want to see him there."

"Then why did your family send you here?" Alice asked, "Are you sure your mind is okay?"

"He's here, he's always with me." Ethan blinked, "You just don't understand."

"My family sent me here because they feel threatened by me. I was smarter than them. They didn't understand me, and everyone fears what he doesn't understand. They wanted to get rid of me, so they poked and prodded me until my bipolar state became worse and worse and then sent me here. My mind is fine. It's people that are the problem."

"Oh, I do understand. You know, I used to have a special friend like Aiden too," she said, smiling at him.

"Sometimes you have to take the blame, it's not just others fault." Alice tried to reason.

"Aiden is my brother, not my friend." Ethan said, "We want to go back to the beach." he said quietly, shivering, looking feverish as he said it. Visions of his last moments with Aiden flashed through his eyes. Where Aiden was drowning in the beach water while Ethan struggled to save him.

Kit only spared a glance at her. He was used to this. He stood in front of the wall and looked over the equations and problems he had solved – problems that many scientists deemed impossible. "Because you know my family, don't you? You heard what I heard in the middle of the night when they thought I wasn't listening?"

"Why do you want to go to the beach, Ethan?" she asked kindly. "Did something happen there?"
