Avan just nodded. Time to talk to Dawn, I think, he thought, closing the door after him. "So, how's your first day?"
"Pretty great. Seen Ciaran and Helena around?"
He glowered. "Helena has three classes with me."
"Yikes. Sorry man." He collapsed in a chair. "But hey, at least you'll know where she is for most of the day."
"True. Sit down, Drake," Avan said, plopping down on his bed.

Helena waited down the hall and watched as Ciaran left. "What was that about?" she asked as he passed by.

"Already on it," he muttered, leaning back in his chair, yawning loudly.

Ciaran stopped next to her and moved his hand away from his neck, "Our cousin's little girlfriend is a vampire."

Avan chuckled. "Missing London yet?"
"London, yes. Dad, no."
"Understandable. Then again, no one likes that man."
"Other than my siblings and his evil friends, no. I swear he eats baby bones for breakfast. And kicks puppies. And steals candy from kids."

She grinned. "Perfect. We can use that against him."

Drake ended up dozing off in the chair to the sound of the two talking.

Ciaran looked over at her, raising an eyebrow as he put his hand back on his neck, "What do you have in mind?"

Avan smiled sympathetically. "Well, you're here now. You won't have to deal with him again."

"Threaten to expose her. If the seniors found out that she is a vampire, she'd be killed." She sneered. "It's the ultimate disgrace."

Ciaran smirked, "That can prove to be fun." He murmured. "And Dad'll be happy with that."

Dawn paced in her room, paling, "I made a huge mistake."

"Yes, he will be." She smiled fleetingly - it was a cold, cruel smile. "Well, I'm off to the library. Dad wants me to do some research on Avan's demon."

"I'll tend to my wound then, have fun, sister." He waved slightly before heading to his dorm.

Dawn took out her phone and scrolled down to Avan before texting out, I need to talk to you.

"Good luck with that," she replied over her shoulder.

Avan checked his phone. Alright. Want me to come there?

Ciaran nodded and headed over to his single dorm room to wash off the blood and to patch up the wound.

Yes please she responded before locking her phone and moved over to the far side of her bed against the wall.

"Alright. Just chill here or whatever. Dawn needs to talk to me for a sec. Got a mini fridge full of food if you're hungry."
"Awesome! I'm starving!" He plopped down in front of the fridge and the raiding began.

As Avan left, Drake opened his eyes, "Dammit, I fell asleep again, didn't I?"

Dawn waited for him to arrive, her anxiety growing. She hugged her legs close to her chest, her fangs poking through her gums.

"Yes, you did. Go back to sleep. You look exhausted," he said on the way out.

"Alright," Drake murmured moving over to Avan's bed and collapsed onto it, his neck still aching.

Avan jogged to Dawn's room and knocked on the door. "Hey! It's me."

Dawn looked over at the door and responded with a quiet, "Come in." he heart started to beat faster, knowing Avan was going to be pissed at her.

He opened and shut the door behind him. "What's up?" he asked, sitting on the edge of the bed.

"I did something bad again," Dawn said quietly, looking at him with her now red eyes.

"Oh, Dawn," he whispered. "What'd you do?"

"I bit your cousin, Ciaran." she said, biting onto her lip, "I'm sorry, he was just following me around and I couldn't control myself." she said, ashamed.

He rubbed his forehead. "Alright. It'll get back to my uncle soon enough. He'll love this, oh, it'll be like Christmas. They were bound to find out anyway whether you bit him or not." He offered a smile. "But if they try anything. If they try to hurt you, I'll be right there protecting you."

"I can protect myself too, Avan," Dawn said, looking over at him, trying to hold onto some pride. "I may seem weak and over emotional now, but you know I can handle them." she said with a small smile, "I'm just sorry I did that to him, to Drake . . " her voice faltered.

Avan just smiled. He had seen strong men - stronger men than both of them - die at his family's bidding. But he nodded. "I know. I just . . . don't want you to be hurt by them. They're a curse I don't want you to suffer by." He patted her leg. "I didn't expect anything different, to be honest. I've seen newly turned vamps before."

"But I don't want to hurt anymore of my friends." she said, looking torn, "I already hurt you and Drake. I don't want to think who will be next."

He sighed. "Is there anything I can do? Chain you up or something?"
